September 23, 2000 : Olaf Kolzig underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee and will miss the first three weeks of the 2000-01 regular season

June 6, 2000 : Capitals agreed to terms with Craig Billington on a three-year contract. Terms of the deal will pay Billington $787,500 in 2000-2001, $827,000 in 2001-2002, and $868,000 in 2002-2003.

August 25, 2000 : Martin Brochu signed with the Calgary Flames.

October 10, 2000 : Olaf Kolzig returned to the Washington Capitals alignment after missing two games because of an arthroscopic knee surgery. Goalie Sébastien Charpentier have been assigned to the Portland Pirates of the AHL.

November 1, 2000 : The Washington Capitals signed goaltender Corey Hirsch to a one-year contract and immediately lent him to the Albany River Rats. Hirsch spent last season in the IHL with the Milwaukee Admirals and the Utha Grizzlies.
