  • The Washington Capitals loaned goaltender Curtis Cruickshank to the Rockford Ice hogs of the UHL
  • Colorado Avalanche's Patrick Roy was cleared of domestic violence in a Colorado courtroom. It has not been decided yet if the ruling will be appealed.
  • Toronto Maple leafs' Curtis Joseph passed Hall of Famer Billy Smith and took the sole possession of the 15th place on the all-time win record, posting his 306th career win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

    January 29, 2001 :
  • San Jose Sharks' Evgeby Nabokov has been named NHL Player of the Week for the period of Monday, January 22 through Sunday, January 28. Nabokov posted a 2-0-1 record with a 1,30 GAA and a .947 save percentage

    January 27, 2001 :
  • The Calgary Flames signed goaltender Mike Vernon to a one year contract extension
  • The New York Islanders recalled goaltender Rick DiPietro from the Chicago Wolves of the IHL

    January 24, 2001 :
  • The St.Louis Blues recalled goaltender Dwayne Roloson from the Worcester Ice cats of the AHL
  • The Chicago Black hawks assigned goaltender Jeff Maund and recalled goaltender Michel Larocque from the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL

    January 23, 2001 :
  • The St.Louis Blues placed goaltender Brent Johnson on the injured reserved list. Johnson twisted his knee and is expected back on a day-to-day basis

    January 19,2001 :
  • The Nashville Predators extended the contract of goaltender Tomas Vokoun. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    January 18,2001 :
  • New York Rangers' goaltender Mike Richter earned his 267th victory, passing Ed Giacomin's record as the Rangers' All-Time wins leader.

    January 17, 2001 :
  • The New York Islanders named Mike Palmateer as their goaltending coach
  • The Philadelphia Flyers assigned goaltender Neil Little to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL
  • The NHL anounced the final roster for the World Team at the NHL All-Star game. Dominik Hasek is the winner of the popular vote and will start the game. He will be joined by 2 rookies in Roman Cechmanek and San Jose Sharks' Evgeny Nabokov
  • The Carolina Hurricanes assigned goaltender Tyler Moss to the Cincinnati Cyclones of the IHL and recalled Jean-Marc Pelletier

    January 16, 2001 :
  • The Philadelphia Flyers recalled goaltender Neil Little from the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL
  • The NHL anounced that Colorado Avalanche's Patrick Roy will start for team North America at the 2001 NHL All-Star game. Phoenix' Sean Burke will play in his second All-Star game ant they will be joined by Devils' Martin Brodeur who will make his 5th appearance

    January 15, 2001 :
  • The Tampa Bay Lightning activated goaltender Kevin Weekes from the injured list and assigned goaltender Dieter Kochan to the Detroit Vipers of the IHL
  • The Chicago Black hawks recalled goaltender Jeff Maund and assigned goaltender Michel Larocque to the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL
  • Flyers' Roman Cechmanek was named the NHL Player of the Week. Cechmanek went 3-0-0 with a 0.66 GAA, a .973% save percentage with one shutout

    January 14, 2001 :
  • The New York Rangers assigned goaltender Vitaly Yeremeyev to the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL
  • The Edmonton Oilers assigned goaltender Joaquin Gage to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL

    January 12, 2001 :
  • The Columbus Blue Jackets activated goaltender Ron Tugnutt from injured reserve and assigned Jean-François Labbé to the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL. Tugnutt missed 7 games

  • The New York Rangers recalled goaltender Vitali Yeremeyev from the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL

  • The Edmonton Oilers claimed Dominic Roussel from the Anaheim Mighty ducks on waivers

  • The Dallas Stars lift Belfour' suspension and assigned goaltender Rick Tabaracci to the Utha Grizzlies of the IHL

    January 8, 2001 :
  • The Tampa Bay Lightning placed Kevin Weekes on injured reserve, with a groin strain and recalled goaltender Dieter Kochan from the Detroit Vipers of the IHL

    January 7, 2001 :
  • The Dallas Stars suspended goaltender Ed Belfour indefinitely
  • The Anaheim Mighty Ducks recalled goaltender Jean-Sébastien Gigu`re from the Cincinnati Mighty ducks of the AHL and assigned goaltender Dominic Roussel to Cincinnati

    January 6, 2001 :
  • The Dallas Stars recalled goaltender Rick Tabaracci from the Utah Grizzlies of the IHL to serve as Marty Turco's backup after Ed Belfour left the team following a dispute with coach Ken Hitchcock

    Montréal Canadien' José Théodore scored an empty net goal against the New York Islanders.
  • The Montréal Canadiens placed goalie Jeff Hackett on the injured reserved list and recalled Mathieu Garon from the Québec Citadelles of the AHL
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned goaltender Rich Parent to the Wilkes-Barre-Scranton Penguins of the AHL
